The Towson Tutor teaches with a LIGHT BUT FOCUSED APPROACH helping learning feel ACCESSIBLE AND JOYFUL!

Garrison McLaney M.Ed

Fun Fact: She once ran two marathons in one week, while these days she plays pickleball every chance she gets.

After completing her degree in elementary education from Towson University, Garrison promptly immersed herself in teaching first and second grade in Baltimore City while also working on a master’s degree program at Johns Hopkins University.

After becoming a parent, she taught closer to home at two independent schools with a focus on meeting the learning needs of students with language learning differences. At the Jemicy School, Garrison honed her skills in Orton Gillingham, a multisensory approach to language skills.

Garrison chose to homeschool for a time when her own daughter was diagnosed with ADD and POTS and opened The Towson Tutor to continue to share her talents with other students.

Being able to provide much-needed individual instruction to students needing support in reading and writing brings Garrison joy. She aims to share her joy with her students every day.

Oliver

Fun Fact: Oliver whistles the same tune each morning when he wakes up!

Born in 2019, our parakeet, Oliver, came to us from a loving home in College Park, Maryland. He was 12 weeks old when we got him, the perfect age for training. Being a reading and writing tutor, of course, Garrison has taught Oliver numerous phrases and words. Students often hear him say, ¨such a pretty bird,¨ ¨Oliver,¨ and ¨Hi there¨
